Manchester United target Haaland joins Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund announced the arrival of Manchester United target Erling Braut Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg on Sunday afternoon.

Haaland has emerged as the hottest prospect in European football this season and was heavily linked with a move to United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Haaland his debut during his time as Molde manager and wanted to reunite with the 19-year-old at Old Trafford next month.

However, United refused to bend to the wishes of Haaland's agent, Mino Raiola, which would have effectively placed control of the player's future in his hands.

Raiola wanted to a buy-out clause inserted in Haaland's contract, as well as a slice of any future sale to go directly into his own pocket.

United bowed out of the race and now Dortmund have signed the highly rated teenager after triggering his £17.1m release clause.

Haaland has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal running until the summer of 2023 and is the second Salzburg player to complete a high profile move this month.

Salzburg have also lost Takumi Minamino to Liverpool, with Hwang Hee-chan also expected to sign for Wolves next month.

Haaland remarkably scored in five of Salzburg's six Champions League group games, with only Robert Lewandowski (10) netting more times than the 19-year-old (8).
