Kane pushing for North London derby return

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Harry Kane will not feature against Bayer Leverkusen but is could face Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.

Kane, 23, hasn’t featured since picking up ankle ligament damage in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Sunderland midway through September but has now returned to training with the team.

The England international has missed Tottenham’s last nine matches in all competitions but will miss their must win match against Bayer Leverkusen in order to be in the right shape to face Arsenal at the weekend.

“Tomorrow he will not be on the bench,” London Evening Standard quote Pochettino as saying in the build up to Wednesday’s Champions League match. “You can see him do the warm-up with the team before the match and be involved in some exercise, but he is not ready for Leverkusen.

“Maybe Sunday. Harry did a half session with the team, then a specific training session just for him. It will be good for Harry to be involved in the whole session with the group, maybe on Thursday.”

Kane’s absence has been notable for Tottenham, particularly of late in which the goals appear to have dried up for Pochettino’s side. Tottenham are the only unbeaten side remaining in the Premier League, but with Kane in the starting XI they have won (60%) of their matches compared to a win rate of just 40% without him in the team.
