Inter sack Spalletti with Conte announcement imminent

Inter have confirmed they have sacked Luciano Spalletti.

Spalletti has spent the last two years as Inter head coach but has failed to close the gap on the league’s top two teams.

Inter spent most of the season in third place but needed to beat Empoli on the final weekend to finish the campaign in fourth and secure Champions League football for next season.

Spalletti extended his contract to 2021 at the beginning of the season but Inter have now made the decision to sack the 60-year-old, who had a win ratio of 51.1% in all competitions.

Inter are now expected to appoint former Juventus manager Antonio Conte, who has been out of work since being sacked as Chelsea boss at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Conte has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A since being dismissed by Chelsea and has now decided to take over at Inter.

Conte hasn’t managed in Italy domestically since guiding Juventus to three straight league titles from 2011 to 2014.

The 49-year-old, who has already earmarked Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku as his top transfer target, had a win ratio of 67.4% during his time as Juventus head coach.
