Chelsea interested in surprise move for World Cup hero
Chelsea have earmarked Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois, claims Sky Sports.
The west London outfit are prepared to cash in on Courtois this summer amid fears he will run down his contract and leave for nothing at the end of next season.
Chelsea have already been linked with a move for Roma ace Alisson, who is also a target for Real Madrid, but now the Premier League giants are considering a move for Schmeichel.
The 31-year-old almost inspired Denmark to the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup but ended up on the losing side against Croatia on penalties on Sunday evening.
Schmeichel was a standout performer for the Danes throughout the tournament, finishing as their highest WhoScored rated player (7.51). The Leicester goalkeeper didn’t endure the best of campaigns last season but rediscovered his best form in Russia.
In fact, Schmeichel is one of only six players that have won the WhoScored Man of the Match on two occasions at the 2018 World Cup.
