Tottenham lead the race for £30m-rated Serie A striker

Tottenham have emerged as the frontrunners to sign out of favour AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, claims The Guardian.

Jose Mourinho has lamented Tottenham’s lack of cover for Harry Kane with the England captain sidelined for the foreseable future with a hamstring problem.

The Tottenham head coach is keen to sign another striker this month and Piatek is reportedly the club’s most likely target.

Piatek was heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa earlier this week after club officials flew out to Italy, but it has since emerged they made the trip to discuss a deal for reserve goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Despite only joining Milan 12 months ago in a deal worth £30.9m, the Serie A outfit are ready to listen to offers for the Poland international following Zlatan Ibrahomovic’s return to the club.

The 24-year-old burst onto the scene with Genoa in the first six months of last season with 13 goals in his first 19 league games for the Italian side.

That form earned him a high profile move to Milan but he has failed to replicate it with the Rossoneri.

Piatek has netted just four times in 18 league appearances this season and has 13 Serie A goals in 36 goals for the club since his arrival.
