Tottenham are in talks with towering Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic after a move to West Ham broke down, reports Sky Sports.
The 23-year-old has just a year left to run on his current deal in Italy and Fiorentina are keen to bring in a fee for the defender rather than lose him on a free in 2022.
West Ham, who have been quiet in the window so far, are looking to bolster their backline and had identified Milenkovic as a potential addition to the squad.
However, the Hammers and Fiorentina have been unable to agree a fee for the Serb and that has seen Spurs enter the race for Milenkovic.
Spurs are looking to strengthen their defence further this summer following the arrival of Cristian Romero with sporting director Fabio Paratici identifying Milenkovic as the ideal partner for the Argentine.
The north London side have been in talks with Bologna over a move for Takehiro Tomiyasu, but the transfer looks to have stalled in recent weeks.
