Atletico Madrid prepared to sell summer signing for Morata

Atletico Madrid are looking to sell Nikola Kalinic after just six months in order to free up space to sign Chelsea outcast Alvaro Morata, claims The Independent.

Diego Simeone’s side signed Kalinic from AC Milan in the summer but the Croatia international has failed to make any impact at the club.

Monaco have been linked with a move for the 31-year-old and Atletico are hopeful of offloading him now he is deemed surplus to requirements.

Morata is free to leave Chelsea this month after failing to make the grade under Maurizio Sarri and Atletico are currently the only viable option on the table.

Sevilla have pulled out of a deal due to the finances involved and Milan do not seem overly keen on the Spain international.

Morata, who came through Real Madrid’s academy and had two stints with the first-team, has now emerged as a surprise target for Atletico.

With Diego Costa still overcoming serious injury, Simeone wants to sign a dependable striker that can work in unison with Antoine Griezmann.

Atletico are already operating near their wage limit and have also made fellow summer signing Gelson Martins available for transfer in order to free up space for Morata.

Since the start of last season only Harry Kane (8) has scored more headed goals in the Premier League than Morata (7).
