Arsenal and Tottenham to thrash it out for England international

Arsenal have entered the race to sign Ross Barkley and will battle it out with Tottenham to secure the youngster’s services this summer, reports the Daily Mail.

Barkley has a little over a year left to run on his current deal at Goodison Park and with the player reluctant to put pen to paper on a new contract, is tipped to leave the Toffees at the end of the season.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the England international in recent months and appear to be fronting the queue to secure his services.

However, they could face competition from north London rivals Arsenal in the summer, while Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.

Barkley started the Toffees’ 1-0 loss to Swansea on the bench and failed to make the ideal impact following his half time introduction, with manager Ronald Koeman becoming increasingly frustrated with the player’s delay in a extending his stay on Merseyside.

Everton would still command a fee of around £35m should they sell Barkley this summer, with the youngster playing the third most key passes (81) in the Premier League this season.

If Everton do sell, they will turn their attention to Swansea's Gylfi Sigurdsson, who they have identified as their number one target as a Barkley replacement.
