Newcastle re-sign Andy Carroll

Newcastle have announced they have re-signed Andy Carroll on a one-year deal.

Carroll has been a free agent since his West Ham deal expired at the start of the summer.

The 30-year-old has endured an injury-hit career since leaving Newcastle to join Liverpool in a £36m deal in January 2011.

Newcastle have protected themselves from Carroll’s injury woes by agreeing a low basic wage pumped with incentives when he is fit to play.

Steve Bruce’s side have completely overhauled their offensive options this summer by signing Joelinton in a club-record deal and Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice in addition to Carroll’s return.

Carroll has only managed 105 starts from a possible 304 Premier League matches since August 2011 and netted just 37 goals in that time.

Of players that have started at least 15 Premier League matches over the last three seasons, only two players successfully won an aerial duel more frequently than Carroll (one every 8.8 minutes of action).
