Madrid lodge mammoth bid for versatile Bayern defender

Real Madrid have lodged an improved €65m (£54m) bid for Bayern Munich star David Alaba, reports AS.

The European champions have been heavily linked with a move for the Austria midfielder since the end of last season and have reportedly already fallen short with their opening €50m (£41.4m) offer earlier this summer.

Bayern aren’t interested in selling the versatile 24-year-old and will only entertain offers in excess of €80m (£66.2m) for the Austria international, who only signed a new three-year deal in March.

Since August 2012, only two players have completed more accurate passes in the Bundesliga than Alaba (6,397).
