Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney have failed to overcome injuries that ruled them out of Monday’s FA Cup defeat to Chelsea ahead of their match with FC Rostov on Thursday.
The Premier League giants will be looking to capitalise on the 1-1 draw they earned in Russia last week when they welcome Rostov to Old Trafford in two days time but Mourinho will have to go with the same squad as the one used against Chelsea.
Mourinho has at least been boosted by the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who missed the defeat at Stamford Bridge through suspension, but there will be no Martial or Rooney on show on Thursday.
After being eliminated from the FA Cup, a shock elimination from the Europa League here would really pile the pressure on Mourinho, although would allow United to focus solely on climbing back into the top four.
Neither Rooney nor Martial have been first choice under Mourinho this season but the pair have scored or assisted six of the 17 goals they have scored in the Europa League this season.
