Burnley centre-back Michael Keane has emerged as Everton’s number one defensive target this summer, reports Sky Sports.
The England international has a little over one year left to run on his current deal at Turf Moor and is reluctant to sign a new contract for the club.
Burnley are resigned to cashing in on Keane, but would rather sell this summer instead of losing the defender on a free next year.
Manchester United were linked with a move for 24-year-old before agreeing a deal with Benfica for Victor Lindelof, while Liverpool and Chelsea have also emerged as potential destinations for Keane.
Everton, however, have identified Keane as their priority this summer, with manager Ronald Koeman confirming his interest in the defender back in January.
The Toffees are yet to table an offer for Keane, but are expected to firm up their interest in the centre-back in the coming weeks as Koeman looks to improve Everton’s defensive options.
Everton have also been linked with a move for Virgil van Dijk, yet view Keane as a cheaper alternative with Southampton demanding upwards of £60m for the Dutchman.
