Tottenham to use right-back as makeweight in Hojbjerg bid

Tottenham plan to use Kyle Walker-Peters as a makeweight in their quest to sign Pierre Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, reports Football Insider.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Hojbjerg in January, but Saints were to quick to dismiss speculation suggesting the midfielder would leave St. Mary's at the turn of the year.

However, Saints' resolve is likely to soften in the summer with Hojbjerg's contract running until next year and he has shown no signs that he is prepared to extend his stay at the south coast side.

Spurs are expected to return for the 24-year-old in the off season and are prepared to include Walker-Peters in any deal for Hojbjerg.

The right-back moved to Saints in January on loan until the end of the season to replace Cedric Soares, who left for Arsenal.

Walker-Peters has found playing time hard to come by following his move to Saints, with his sole Premier League start coming in the 2-1 loss to Burnley back in February.

However, the defender is not wanted at Spurs and the north London side are hoping they can lower Saints' asking price for Hojbjerg by including Walker-Peters in the deal.

Hojbjerg has been a key man for Saints this season having won possession in the midfield third more times (157) than any other player in the Premier League this term.
