Villas-Boas set to resign

Zenit St. Petersburg manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed he will step down at the end of the season.

The former Chelsea manager has been heavily criticised following Zenit’s poor start to the season and appeared close to be axed after being hit by a six-game ban for his part in a touchline altercation with a fourth official.

However, Villas-Boas has told the club he will not extend his contract beyond this season and will walk away at the end of the campaign.

Villas-Boas told Zenit’s website during a Q&A session: “When we last met with you I said that the club had made me and offer at the end of last season. I have refused and at the end of the season I will leave the club.

“But in any case we will continue to work hard, we need to score points, to catch up with those ahead of us, to try to perform successfully in the Champions League.”
