Real Sociedad will be sweating on the fitness of star striker Imanol Agirretxe after he was stretchered off during their clash with Real Madrid through injury.
Agirretxe, 28, has been the star of the team this season and without his 12 goals this season it’s not hard to imagine where Eusebio Sacristan’s side would be instead of 14th and two points clear of the drop zone.
The Spanish striker was forced off on a stretcher after a heavy collision with Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas that went unpunished, although many thought the Costa Rica international should have been sent off.
The extent of the injury is still unknown, as is the type of knock, but Sociedad will be hoping it isn’t too serious with their forward integral to their chances of avoiding relegation.
In fact, since the start of the season no player has contributed a greater proposition of their teams’ goals than Agirretxe, who has scored 12 of Sociedad’s 17 league goals thus far (71%).
