Manchester City out of the running for Barcelona star

Manchester City want to sign a new striker this summer but will not make a move for Barcelona's Antoine Griezmann, reports The Sun.

Pep Guardiola is desperate to find a replacement for Sergio Aguero after letting the Argentina international depart on a free transfer this summer.

Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland and Tottenham's Harry Kane are City's top transfer targets but they face being priced out of moves for both.

City are willing to put down £100m for their new No.9 but both Dortmund and Tottenham want considerably more than that to cash in.

Barcelona may be forced to cut loose with Griezmann in order to free up their mammoth wage bill and get Leo Messi's new contract over the line.

The Spanish giants have also agreed free transfer deals for the likes of Aguero and Memphis Depay but can't currently register them until they reduce their wage bill.

Barcelona may have to offload the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele and Griezmann as a result but City are not interested in the France international.

Griezmann has endured a turbulent two years at Barcelona since completing a £107m switch from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019.

The 30-year-old has only managed 22 goals in 71 league games for Barcelona. In fact, he hasn't hit 20 goals in a single league campaign since 2014/15 (22 goals).
