Marouane Fellaini wants a new two-year deal and a wage hike on his existing Manchester United deal to renew at Old Trafford, reports The Times.
The Belgium international’s current £80,000-a-week contract is due to expire at the end of the season but Jose Mourinho is optimistic Fellaini will prolong his stay.
Fellaini has endured a turbulent time at United since joining from Everton five years ago, but has developed into a key figure since Mourinho was appointed manager in 2016.
The 30-year-old turned down a new deal from United at the start of the season and looked destined to leave this summer with interest from the likes of Besiktas.
However, Mourinho hinted at the weekend that Fellaini wants to stay at the club and is hopeful a resolution can be found before the end of the current campaign.
United will sit down for fresh talks with Fellaini’s representatives this week but the Belgian wants a two-year deal worth more than £100,000-a-week.
Fellaini has endured a nightmare season with injuries, limiting the experienced midfielder to just six starts across all competitions.
He came off the bench to net an injury-time winner against Arsenal at the weekend, to take his league tally to four goals for the campaign.
In fact, only two United players have scored more league goals at Old Trafford than Fellaini this season.
