Valencia manager wants Paris Saint-Germain outcast

Valencia manager Marcelino has confirmed he wants to keep Goncalo Guedes beyond the end of his loan stint but concedes that decision is out of his hands.

Guedes joined Valencia from PSG on a season-long loan deal in the summer and the Portugal international has been a revelation for the Spanish giants this term.

The 21-year-old is not ready to make a decision on his future until the end of the season but Valencia manager Marcelino hopes he will continue to ply his trade at the Mestalla.

“I would sign him and I want him here permanently, but that’s not my job,” Marcelino told AS. “He is a fantastic player with lots of potential still to come, he is a joy to coach and he is a good teammate for all our players and he works very hard.

“But my information on the club signing him is that I do not have information!”

Guedes made a flying start to the season, playing a direct hand in eight goals in his first eight appearances for Valencia.

However, he has struggled for form and fitness since the end of October, which has limited him to just eight appearances since then.

In that time, he has failed to score or assist in 508 minutes of competitive action.
