West Ham set to sign PSG outcast

West Ham are on the verge of signing of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, claims The Guardian.

Areola spent last season on loan at Fulham but is looking for a new club after the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League.

The former France international was a standout performer for Fulham but has no future at PSG following Gianluigi Donnarumma's arrival from AC Milan this summer.

Areola will join West Ham on an initial season-long loan deal and David Moyes' side will have an option to make the switch permanent next summer.

Moyes has one eye on Areola succeeding Lukasz Fabianski in the long-term but also wants a squad capable of handling their European exploits this season.

Fabianski has entered the final 12 months of his current West Ham deal and will be 37 by the time it expires.

The former Arsenal shot-stopper has been a great player for the Hammers but did struggle with injuries last season.

West Ham initially held reservations over Areola's high wage demands but have moved to first secure his services on loan.

Areola ranked fifth in the Premier League for most saves (114) last season and kept nine clean sheets in 36 appearances.
