Arsenal offer outcast to West Brom in exchange for Evans

In their continued pursuit of West Brom defender Jonny Evans, Arsenal have reportedly offered Mathieu Debuchy to the Baggies to try and sweeten the deal, The Star reports.

The latest suggested offer comes in spite of claims that the Midlands club will not entertain offers below £25m for the Northern Irishman, though it is said that the Gunners have only bid £10m along with out-of-favour defender Debuchy.

Any such offer then is expected to be rebuffed by West Brom, whose manager Alan Pardew has stated that a deal will be more likely to be reached should an agreement be made this weekend.

Evans has also attracted interest from Manchester City, though their impending signing of Aymeric Laporte has meant that Arsenal no longer face competition for the 30-year-old’s services.

That may mean that the club feel they are more likely to get a cheaper deal for the former Manchester United centre-back, but an unwillingness to meet club’s valuations of their players could leave Arsene Wenger short come deadline day.

The opportunity to sign French full-back Debuchy is not overly appealing after all, given that the 32-year-old has started just three Premier League games over two and a half seasons at The Emirates.

Evans, meanwhile, has been a pivotal player to Albion, starting 81 league games over the same timeframe, making the third most interceptions of any Premier League centre-back (202) since the start of the 2015/16 season.

His departure would be a significant blow to the Baggies hopes of survival, with the club only off the foot of the table on goal difference as things stand.
