Chelsea looking to land cut-price deal for teenager

Derby will demand at least £5m for teenager Max Bird amidst reports of Chelsea's interest in the teenager, reports Football Insider.

Blues boss Frank Lampard may have used Bird on just three occasions in his sole season as Rams manager, yet the former England international and assistant Jody Morris were both impressed with the 19-year-old.

And Chelsea could look to now bring him to Stamford Bridge over the summer as Lampard aims to bolster his midfield.

Derby currently value Bird at £5m and will not sell for any less, though that is unlikely to deter Chelsea.

Bird has a little over two years left to run on his current deal with the Rams, so Derby are under no pressure to sell just yet.

The youngster hasn't quite made a starting berth his own under head coach Phillip Cocu succeeded Lampard as Derby boss, yet they have been a better team when he does start.

Indeed, Derby's win ratio rises to 50% from 28% from the 12 league matches Bird has started this season, with the Rams currently enduring a so-so season as they sit 12th in the Championship.
