Swansea close in on £11m-rated Las Palmas midfielder

Swansea are in advanced talks to sign Las Palmas midfielder Roque Mesa in an £11m deal, reports Wales Online.

Mesa, 28, has been heavily linked with a move away from his boyhood club this summer after enjoying a fine season for the Spanish side last season.

However, Swansea are now in pole position to sign the central midfielder and are on course to make him the third most expensive player in the club’s history.

Roma and Sevilla have both expressed an interest in Mesa and it would be a major coup for Swansea to fend off interest from two clubs that can offer European football to sign the highly rated midfielder, who has a £26m release clause.

Las Palmas are willing to settle on less than Mesa’s escape clause and Swansea’s offer, which is by far the biggest they have received for Mesa, would go down as a record fee for the Canary Island Club.

Mesa is extremely tidy in possession, which is illustrated by the fact only Samuel Umtiti (92.9%), Toni Kroos (92.2%) and Nacho (91.7%) finished the 2016/17 La Liga campaign with a higher pass accuracy (91.4%).
