Arsenal are willing to make Alexis Sanchez the best paid player in the club’s history after offering the forward a new £300,000-a-week deal, according to The London Evening Standard.
Sanchez will only have 12 months remaining on his current deal at the end of the season and it appeared the former Barcelona forward was set to leave this summer after failing to agree personal terms on several occasions.
There have been mixed reports about Sanchez’s Arsenal future, with some claiming he would agree to see out the final year of his contract if Arsenal went big in the summer transfer window before being able to move across London to join Chelsea for nothing at the end of next season.
However, Arsenal have made a huge move in their attempts to tie down Sanchez’s best years by succumbing to his wage demands with a new deal that would make him the best paid player in the club’s history, a huge improvement on his current £130,000-a-week salary.
While Sanchez’s form has dipped of late, his contribution to Arsenal’s season has been monumental and they could find themselves even lower than seventh without his performances. In fact, only Romelu Lukaku (29) has played a direct hand in more Premier League goals this season than Sanchez (27).
