West Brom close to breaking club-transfer record

West Bromwich Albion are close to shattering their club-transfer record after agreeing terms with Zenit St. Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon ahead of a £15m deal, reports Sky Sports News.

Rondon has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years and is expected to be announced as a Baggies player after passing his medical at the club over the weekend.

The Venezuela international is due to be in the stands to watch West Brom’s match against Manchester City at the Hawthorns on Monday night and will be formerly announced when the club have been given international clearance.

When completed, the deal will eclipse the £10m they paid for Nigeria striker Brown Ideye last summer and is real evidence of clubs up and down the Premier League reaping the benefits from the new £5.1bn television broadcasting deal that will come into effect next season.

Rondon has spent the last three years in the Russian Premier League and finished the 2014/15 campaign with Zenit, where no player scored more clear-cut chances than the 25-year-old (10).
