Jurgen Klinsmann resigns as Hertha Berlin boss after January splurge

Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin have announced Jurgen Klinsmann has stepped down as manager after just over two months in charge.

Hertha appointed the iconic German as Ante Covic's successor at the end of November on a deal until the end of the season.

Klinsmann, who returned to manage in the Bundesliga after a decade away from the league, took over Hertha with the club level on points with the relegation play-off spot.

The 55-year-old was backed heavily in the January transfer window with the arrivals of Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan.

Hertha also broke their transfer record to sign Lucas Tousart from Lyon only to send the Frenchman back on loan to the Ligue 1 outfit the remainder of the season.

Klinsmann only won three of his nine league games in charge of Hertha but has at least left the club six points clear of the relegation spot.

Hertha have confirmed Alexander Nouri and the current coaching team will oversee first-team affairs until a decision is made on Klinsmann's long-term replacement.
