Virgil van Dijk insists he has no regrets over his failed attempt to leave Southampton for Liverpool over and the summer and has refused to rule out a January move to Anfield.
Liverpool failed to sign first choice defensive target Van Dijk after Southampton dug their heels in over the Netherlands international and he has only just worked his way back into contention at Saint Mary’s.
However, Van Dijk has risked further backlash after teasing a January move to Liverpool.
“I have no regrets,” The Daily Mirror quote Van Dijk as saying. “Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.”
Van Dijk made his first Premier League start since January in Southampton’s 2-1 defeat to Stoke at the weekend after suffering ankle ligament damage at the start of the year.
Despite spending most of the year on the sidelines, Van Dijk has won the WhoScored Man of the Match award more times than any other defender since August 2015 (10).
