Liverpool have not approached Bundesliga goalkeeper

Cologne sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has refuted claims Liverpool have made an official approach for goalkeeper Timo Horn.

Liverpool are widely expected to make signing a new goalkeeper a top priority in the summer despite the fact Simon Mignolet signed a new long-term deal in January.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have naturally been linked with a host of players from the Bundesliga and reports have emerged suggesting they were on the verge of making an approach for Cologne shot shopper Horn, who has a €9m (£7.1m) release clause that needs to be activated this month.

However, that is not the case according to Cologne, who claim they have heard nothing from Liverpool.

“There is no enquiry,” Schmadtke told Kicker, via ESPN. “What’s decisive for me is when I have something in writing from a club or when the agent calls me. Both things have not happened so far.”

Since August 2014, only two goalkeepers have saved more penalties in the Bundesliga than Horn (2).
