Banned Bundesliga star dreams of Chelsea move

Hakan Calhanoglu may have played his last match for Bayer Leverkusen after revealing he hopes to be a Chelsea player next season.

The Turkey international was hit with a four-month playing ban last week after FIFA ruled the 22-year-old had breached a contract agreement with Turkish side Trabzonspor in 2011.

It means Calhanoglu will miss the remainder of the current campaign and the Leverkusen star has been quick to speak about his future, revealing his hopes of joining Chelsea in the summer.

“God willing, I will be a Chelsea player next season,” he told Turkish newspaper Fanatik, via The Daily Mail. “There are also a number of other clubs interested in signing me.”

The Leverkusen No.10 is arguably enjoying his finest season to date and his unavailability comes as a real blow for Roger Schmidt’s side, who are 11 points off the top three in the Bundesliga and face Atletico Madrid in the next phase of the Champions League.

In fact, Calhanoglu is by far and away Leverkusen’s highest rated player in the league this season (7.49) having played a direct hand in 11 goals in 15 appearances (six goals, five assists).

Not only that, but the player, who is renown for his set piece taking ability, has scored more goals from direct free-kicks (11) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues in the last four seasons.
