Liverpool defender flies to Germany for knee treatment

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has flown to Germany for further treatment on his knee injury that has kept him sidelined for the last two matches, reports The Sun.

Lovren, 27, was left behind in Liverpool as the rest of his teammates travelled to La Manga for a warm weather training camp last week after his troublesome knee problem flared up in their draw with Chelsea at the end of January.

The Croatia international has now been sent to Munich to meet with German national team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, who has previously treated former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Lovren has escaped ligament damage but Jurgen Klopp wants the problem cleared once and for all so the No.6 is available for the rest of the season as the Reds look to get their season back on track.

In the last three Premier League campaigns Lovren has completed more clearances than any other Liverpool player since joining from Southampton in 2014 (485).

Furthermore, only two outfielders have committed more errors that have directly led to an opposition goal than Lovren (4).
