Manchester City have been served a blow in their pursuit of Steven N’Zonzi after the Sevilla ace revealed he doesn’t miss the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s side have emerged as suitors of the former Stoke midfielder, who has developed into one of the best central midfielders in Spain since making the move to Sevilla in 2015.
The 28-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Leicester, Barcelona and Juventus since the end of last season, has a release clause of £25.5m in his existing deal which could make Sevilla powerless to keeping their French midfielder in the future.
However, N’Zonzi has eased fears of a potential exit but insisting he will not leave Sevilla this month and dismissing the idea of a return to the Premier League.
“I don’t miss the Premier League,” N’Zonzi told FourFourTwo, via Football Espana. “I love it here. It feels like the whole city is behind the team. We feel so tough to beat at home because the fans are incredible. The players can feel it. They are extremely passionate.
“The Barcelona interest is flattering, but it’s only in the newspapers - I’m not even thinking about it. I am happy at Sevilla.
“It’s something you get used to - until something actually happens, then it isn’t really worth thinking about. But to be linked with clubs is a sign that I’m playing pretty well, so that’s nice.”
N’Zonzi is averaging more passes per game than any other player in La Liga this season (76.7).
