Barca tried to put €1bn release clause in forward’s contract

Neymar is set to end speculation regarding his Barcelona future by signing a new six-year deal worth £10.54m-a-year deal, according to Marca.

The Brazil international has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months and his father had claimed he would have to pull his son out of Spain if the investigation into his move to Barcelona wasn’t resolved.

However, Neymar is set to become the third highest paid star in world football (behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi) by signing on a deal that will run until 2021.

The European champions had looked to insert a staggering €1bn release clause in his contract, but Neymar’s representatives declined and insisted it was lowered to €250m.
