Arguably the biggest game of the weekend comes in Spain where Barcelona and Real Madrid resume rivalries at Camp Nou as the hosts look to extend their gap at the summit of La Liga. Here we look at three key facts ahead of this week’s top clashes in Spain.
Barcelona can pull a whopping 13 points clear of rivals Real Madrid with a win in Saturday’s Clasico as they maintain their push for the title. Real Madrid’s away form has been questionable – despite a run of six games without defeat, the performances have been unsatisfactory – and they will find it easier said than done to come away with all three points here. Barcelona are unbeaten at home in all competitions since last February, dropping points just twice in the league in that period.
Atletico Madrid fell to a disappointing defeat at Sporting Gijon prior to the international break, losing ground in the race for the title and, coming into the welcome of Real Betis, sit nine points behind Barcelona. However, their home form has been impressive, with a solid defence the foundation for their success at the Calderon, with Diego Simeone’s side shipping fewer home league goals (6) than any other team in La Liga this season.
Despite Sevilla’s impressive performances this season, they are the only team yet to win a league game away from home in La Liga this term. Indeed, the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan continues to be a fortress for Unai Emery’s side, with 39 of their 48 points gained coming on home turf. Sevilla are on the longest current winning home streak (13 games) in Europe’s top five leagues, with Los Rojiblancos ruthless in front of their own fans.
