Everton in contract talks with star midfielder, confirms Koeman

Ronald Koeman has confirmed Everton are in contract talks with Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye joined Everton from Aston Villa in August 2016 and has established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League.

Similar to N’Golo Kante in style, some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs have been monitoring Gueye’s progress at Goodison Park and Everton want to secure his long-term future.

Gueye still has three years remaining on his existing deal but Koeman has confirmed talks are now talking place to ward off future interest in the Senegal international.

“It’s true that we are in talks with him [Gueye] about a new contract,” The Daily Mirror quote Koeman as saying. “I’m really happy with him. I think he had a big impact with his aggression in the midfield last season.”

Since the start of last season, Gueye has completed more tackles and interceptions combined (251) than any other Premier League player – Kante is second with 247.
