Carlos Tevez told to lose weight by Chinese Super League side

New Shanghai Shenhua coach Wu Jingui has told Carlos Tevez he will not be considered for selection until he gets into shape.

Jingui was named Gus Poyet’s replacement earlier this week and has wasted no time addressing the Tevez situation.

Tevez, who is reportedly the world’s highest-paid player on £650,000-a-week, has struggled to make any significant impact since moving to China in December and has now been labelled ‘overweight’ by his new manager.

“I won’t pick him right now. He’s not ready physically. He’s not fit to play,” the Shenhua coach told reporters, via Goal.

“He is overweight, along with [Fredy] Guarin. I have to take responsibility for the team and the players as well.

“If you are unable to do your utmost to play, there’s no point in picking you. I have coached lots of big stars, and my players are never picked on reputation.”

Despite spending huge sums of money, Shenhua are currently closer to relegation than they are to the AFC Champions League places. Jingui has inherited a side with only six wins from their 23 matches and just four spots above the bottom two.

Tevez has only featured in 12 of those matches and only contributed two goals in that period. He has weighed in with four assists, but a WhoScored rating of just 6.96 would suggest the 33-year-old has been a huge disappointment in China.
