Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali expects Lorenzo Pellegrini to join former manager Eusebio Di Francesco in moving to Roma this summer.
Di Francesco was confirmed as Roma’s new manager earlier this month and the 47-year-old will take Pellegrini with him to the Eternal City.
The 20-year-old is currently away with the Italy U21 squad at the European Championships and Carnevali expects Roma to exercise their option to re-sign the midfielder before the June 30 deadline.
“We are proud to see our coach joining such a big club as Roma,” he told Sky Sport Italia, via Football Italia. “He helped us to grow a great deal and we owe him a lot.
“We already have an agreement with Roma for Pellegrini. They have an option that expires on June 30 and I think the Giallorssi will exercise it.
“There were no interceptions, we intend to maintain a good rapport with Roma, so we think Pellegrini will return to the capital.”
Pellegrini came through the Roma youth academy before being sold to Sassuolo in 2015 but the highly rated midfielder has thrived since turning out for the Neroverdi and Di Francesco’s side have been so impressed they want to bring him back.
In two years at Sassuolo the young Italian played a direct hand in 15 goals from 47 league appearances (nine goals, six assists) from central midfield.
