Napoli ace agrees new deal with no release clause

Lorenzo Insigne won’t be going anywhere in the summer as he edges closer to signing a new five-year deal with Napoli keeping him at the club until 2022, reports Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia.

Napoli have been in talks with Insigne for months but have finally made a breakthrough in discussions with a new deal poised to be made official imminently.

The Italy international has previously been mooted with a move to the Premier League but looks set for a long-term stay at Napoli after ironing out some details that had held talks up.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had wanted to include a €100m (£83.9m) release clause in Insigne’s new deal, which would have been worth more than what they sold Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus for last summer, but the winger refused.

Insigne has also agreed to give over his image rights to the club, which is what is required from all players at Napoli, while also benefitting from a wage increase following his fantastic campaign this season.

The 25-year-old is enjoying his most prolific campaign in front of goal this season for Napoli, having scored more goals in a single league season than any other campaign during his career (14 goals). Not only that but the Italian has also registered seven assists in Serie A this season.
