Courtois heading for Chelsea exit with Liverpool interested
Chelsea have failed to agree a contract extension with Thibaut Courtois and the Belgian goalkeeper looks set to leave the club this summer, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.
Courtois has entered the final 12 months of his existing Chelsea deal and has been heavily linked with a summer exit after stalling on contract talks.
Real Madrid have been monitoring Courtois’ future all season as they seek a long-term replacement for Keylor Navas and are the frontrunners for his signature if he leaves Chelsea.
The FA Cup champions are desperate to secure Courtois’ long-term future but contract talks have not progressed and now the Belgium international looks destined to leave Stamford Bridge.
Courtois has previously voiced his desire to return to Madrid to be with his children, but Liverpool are reportedly interested in pulling off a shock move for the 26-year-old.
Liverpool have made signing a new goalkeeper a priority this summer in the wake of Loris Karius’ disastrous performance in last weekend’s Champions League final against Madrid.
Courtois is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. In fact, only David de Gea (32) has kept more clean sheets than Courtois (31) in the Premier League since the start of last season.
