Manchester United defender fears his Old Trafford career is over
Luke Shaw’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has hit rock bottom and the left-back fears his Manchester United career is all but over, claims The Guardian.
The England international came on with three minutes remaining in United’s 2-0 win away to Swansea in the League Cup on Tuesday to mark just his second appearance of the season.
Shaw missed pre-season due to ankle ligament damage and Mourinho is still far from impressed with the attitude the 23-year-old has shown since returning to full fitness.
The former Southampton defender pledged to prove Mourinho wrong and save his United future at the end of last season, but it now appears there is no way back for the left-back, who has endured a turbulent time ever since joining United in 2014.
Shaw’s deal is due to expire at the end of the season but reports suggest United have already triggered their option to a further 12 months.
However, this move appears to have been taken to preserve some value in a future sale rather than to give Shaw more time to prove his worth to Mourinho.
With Marcos Rojo poised to return to first-team action next month, Shaw’s first-team opportunities will be further limited, although a January move appears unlikely at this stage.
