Atletico Madrid earmark January move for Paris Saint-Germain forward
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone wants to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani in January, claims AS.
Cavani has entered the final 12 months of his current PSG deal and the Ligue 1 champions have reportedly decided not to offer him a new deal.
Simeone had reservations about his offensive options in the summer after selling Antoine Griezmann to LaLiga rivals Barcelona.
Atletico pushed to sign Spain international Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia but a deal fell through at the end of the summer.
With Diego Costa being lined up with a move to Qatari side Al-Rayyan, there would certainly be room to accomodate Cavani at the start of new year.
Cavani, who has failed to forge a solid relationship with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the last two years, has struggled with injuries since the beginning of last season.
The 32-year-old only managed 20 league starts last term, his lowest return in a Ligue 1 campaign since joining PSG in the summer of 2013.
Cavani has only managed three league starts this term but has managed two goals in that time.
Since making his PSG debut, the Uruguay international has scored at least 40 more goals than any other player in Ligue 1 (136).
