Liverpool are eyeing up a sensational January move for Southampton duo Virgil Van Dijk and Sam McQueen as they look to make another raid on the south coast club, reports The Sun.
Jurgen Klopp is determined to add to his defence in order to strengthen a title charge when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year and has earmarked Van Dijk and McQueen as two key additions.
Van Dijk, 25, has been a revelation for Southampton since joining from Celtic in September 2015 and is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
The fact that the Netherlands international signed a six-year deal in May could prove a problem in Liverpool’s pursuit, but a move for McQueen could be easier, with the Southampton academy graduate’s contract due to expire at the end of the season and new terms yet to be agreed.
Klopp is currently using James Milner as his primary left-back after losing faith in Alberto Moreno and McQueen has impressed in that position in his five appearances in the league and Europe this season.
Since the start of last season only Troy Deeney (303) and Christian Benteke (224) have won more aerial duels in the Premier League than Van Dijk (214).
