Manchester City are considering a move for Ajax youngster and highly rated centre-back Matthijs De Ligt, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Barcelona and Tottenham have both been credited with an interest in the teenager, who is widely considered the best young defender in the Netherlands.
De Ligt has been dubbed the next Virgil van Dijk having forged a solid centre-back partnership with the Liverpool defender for the Dutch national team.
Arsenal and Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for the Ajax sensation, who is set to start against PSV in today’s late Eredivisie kick off.
A number of scouts are expected to be in attendance for the top of the table clash on Sunday to run the rule over De Ligt.
The 18-year-old is aware of a number of teams interested in his services and recently said: “I am going to make a decision with my head, not based on money offers.
“I think some players would be tempted when they get massive offers. But compared to ordinary people I think I earn a huge wage right now, anyway.
“My next step just has to be right for me when I look at the team and where and how I will live.”
De Ligt ranks second for passes (1847) in the Eredivisie this season, reinforcing a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of ‘passing’.
