Everton turn to Deeney

Everton will make a bid for Watford captain Troy Deeney in the January transfer window after missing out on key targets this summer, reports The Daily Mirror.

Ronald Koeman’s side failed with bids for Lucas Perez and Moussa Sissoko, instead watching the duo move to one of their Premier League rivals.

As a result, Everton have earmarked Deeney as their new top transfer target and will step up their interest when the transfer window opens in the New Year.

Watford rejected a £25m bid from Leicester for Deeney at the start of the summer, before their captain signed a new five-year deal at the start of July.

In the last two Premier League campaigns only Jamie Vardy (32) and Harry Kane (28) have played a direct hand in more goals of English players than Deeney (22).
