Paris Saint-Germain make Atletico Madrid ace top target

Paris Saint-Germain have not been put off Atletico Madrid ace Filipe Luis despite Diego Simeone’s plea to retain the defender this month, claims ESPN.

Luis has emerged as a top transfer target for PSG this summer as new head coach Thomas Tuchel looks to sign a new first-choice left-back for the season.

PSG have only signed Gianluigi Buffon and German centre-back Thilo Kehrer this summer but Tuchel insists the club are not finished in the transfer market.

Tuchel’s side have even agreed personal terms with Luis but still need to convince Atletico to sell the experienced Brazil international.

Atletico have enjoyed a thoroughly impressive summer on and off the field and will be reluctant to lose Luis before this month's transfer deadline.

The 33-year-old was reportedly angry after being left out of the starting XI for Atletico’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Madrid last week.

Simeone has already declared he doesn’t want Luis to leave, but goalkeeper Jan Oblak has since conceded he not optimistic the club will convince him to stay.

PSG had initially earmarked moves for Juventus ace Alex Sandro and Borussia Dortmund defender Raphael Guerreiro but they are no longer affordable due to FFP restrictions.

Augsburg’s Philipp Max and Wendell of Bayer Leverkusen have also been considered but Luis is deemed the most viable option this month.

Of players that have made more than 20 appearances in the last three La Liga campaigns, only five players have gained higher WhoScored ratings than Luis (7.50).
