Chelsea youngster pens new deal

 

Chelsea midfielder Ethan Ampadu has put pen to paper on a new five-year-old contract, the club announced on Wednesday morning. 

 

The Wales international moved to Chelsea Exeter City in 2017 and has already made seven first team appearances for the Blues despite only turning 18 last week. 

 

Ethan Ampadu has signed a new five-year contract at Chelsea,” a statement read on the club’s official website. 

 

“The Welshman, who can play in defence or midfield, already has seven Chelsea appearances to his name and is a full international.” 

 

On the new deal, the teenager said: “I’m really proud and happy. I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.” 

 

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago.  

 

“In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.”

Ampadu could feature in Chelsea’s upcoming Europa League tie with PAOK on Thursday evening and recently played a key role in Wales' 4-1 UEFA Nations League win over the Republic of Ireland.
