Chelsea identify Bundesliga goalkeeper as Kepa replacement
Chelsea are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki if they can shift underfire first-choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga over the summer, claims The Sun.
The Blues made Kepa the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time in a £71m deal in 2018 but the Spain international has been hugely underwhelming in that time.
Kepa has been heavily linked with a summer move away from Stamford Bridge after losing his place in the team at the start of the year.
Frank Lampard is reportedly keen to sign a new first-choie goalkeeper for next season but finding a willing buyer for Kepa will prove difficult.
Even more so now that transfer valuations are set to tumble as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Nevertheless, Chelsea haven't abandoned hope of signing a new goalkeeper and have indentified Dortmund shot-stopper Burki as a potential transfer target.
After building a name for himself in Switzerland, Burki has spent the last five seasons at Dortmund but his reliability between the sticks has often been called into question.
The 29-year-old was at fault for Bayern Munich's winning goal in Tuesday night's Der Klassiker after failing to palm Joshua Kimmich's chip over the bar despite being just a few yards off his goalline.
In fact, the £15m-rated goalkeeper has committed the joint-most errors leading to an opposition goal across the last three Bundesliga campaigns (8).
