Barcelona outcast emerges as Tottenham target

Tottenham want to bolster their offensive options in the wake of Harry Kane’s injury and Barcelona outcast Malcom has emerged as a transfer target for the club, reports The Independent.

Kane is sidelined for two months after suffering ankle ligament damage at the end of Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

With Son Heung-min also unavailable until next month due to his commitments with South Korea at the Asian Cup, Tottenham have suddenly been left short in attack.

Mauricio Pochettino has already confirmed there will be no reprieve for outcast striker Vincent Janssen, while Fernando Llorente has been heavily linked with a return to Spain.

Tottenham are currently third in the Premier League but now face a real challenge to hang on to a top four berth without two of their best forwards to call on.

Pochettino’s side are interested in handing Malcom an escape route from his Barcelona hell just six months after the Brazilian left Bordeaux to join the Spanish giants.

Barcelona hi-jacked Roma's deal for Malcom last summer but the 21-year-old has barely got a look in this season and has been linked with a January exit.

Tottenham were one of the clubs that missed out on Malcom last summer but have rekindled their interest following Kane's serious ankle injury.

Pochettino’s side would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season but Barcelona want €44m (£38.6m) up front.

Competing for starting berths alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, Malcom has started just one league game this season.

The Brazilian forward scored against Inter on his Champions League debut for the club but that is his only goal to date for Barcelona.
