Manchester United defender free to leave this month

Manchester United are ready to listen to offers for out-of-favour defender Matteo Darmian this month, reports The Independent.

Darmian has struggled to make any impression at United since joining from Torino in 2015 and has fallen further down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho in the last 18 months.

The Italy international was primarily signed to play at right-back but Antonio Valencia has since emerged as one of the best full-backs in the division.

Darmian has been frequently linked with a return to Italy to the likes of Juventus and Napoli, while AC Milan and even Spanish giants Valencia are the latest sides to express an interest.

It was only this month that Darmian's agent insisted he would remain with United for the remainder of the season but Mourinho's side are looking to trim their squad and cut loose any deadwood.

The 28-year-old has only made four Premier League appearances for United this season and hasn’t featured in any competition since December 20 (vs Bristol City).
