Liverpool ace set for new long-term contract

Liverpool have started contract negotiations with Sadio Mane to tie down the forward on a new long-term deal, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already dished out new contracts to Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in the last three months and are now looking to do the same with Mane.

The Senegal international has developed into a key player for Liverpool since joining from Southampton for £34m in 2016, forming a deadly attack line with the aforementioned duo in the last 12 months.

Mane still has three years left to run on his existing Liverpool deal but the Reds want to reward the 28-year-old with terms that reflect his growing importance to the team.

The speedy forward was sensationally linked with a move to Real Madrid at the end of last season but Zinedine Zidane’s shock departure from the club brought a swift end to those reports.

Mane was particularly key to Liverpool’s run to the Champions League final last season, scoring as many goals in Europe as he did in the Premier League (10), despite playing 18 games fewer.
