Barcelona agree deal in principle for Coutinho

Barcelona have moved a step closer to signing Philippe Coutinho after agreeing a deal in principle with Liverpool worth an initial €90m (£81.6m), reports ESPN Deportes.

Coutinho has emerged as a top transfer target for Barcelona this summer in the wake of Neymar’s £193m departure to Paris Saint-Germain and he has even asked Liverpool to sanction a move the Camp Nou.

Jurgen Klopp has been adamant that Coutinho will not be allowed to leave this summer but the Liverpool head coach appears to be fighting a losing battle as a delegation from Barcelona flew in to Merseyside on Monday evening to finalise a deal.

Barcelona failed with an opening offer of €80m (£72m) last month but have reportedly now made a breakthrough in discussions and agreed a deal in principle that could eventually bring the deal up to €120m (£108.8m) with bonuses.

The Liverpool No.10 is coming off his best ever goalscoring season as a professional after netting 13 goals in the Premier League last season, as well as providing seven assists.

Furthermore, only three Premier League players won the WhoScored Man of the Match award more times than Coutinho last term (8).
