Ipswich have announced the loan capture of Cameron Carter-Vickers from Premier League side Tottenham.
The 20-year-old spent the first half of the season with Sheffield United, though that deal was cut short after Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed the young centre-back wouldn’t receive much playing time in the second half of the campaign.
Ipswich, who are 12th in the Championship ahead of the weekend’s action, have since acted swiftly to secure Carter-Vickers’ services.
“Town have signed versatile defender Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham on loan until the end of the season,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The 20-year-old USA international met up with his new team-mates this morning and will be in the squad for the weekend trip to Bolton.
“Cameron progressed through the youth system at Tottenham, where he worked under Bryan Klug, Town’s head of player and coaching development at the Academy.
“He spent the first half of this season on loan at Sheffield United, marking his Championship debut for the Blades with the winner at Bolton in September and went on to make 18 appearances for the club, including playing in the 1-0 win over Blues at Bramall Lane.
“He was also in the United team that knocked Town out of the FA Cup at the start of this month.
“His loan was for the season but Tottenham recalled him at the start of this week and he will now spend the second half of the campaign at Portman Road.
“He has been handed the number 27 shirt.
“Cameron’s arrival adds to Town’s defensive options and looks likely to pave the way for Tommy Smith to join MLS side Colorado Rapids.”
Carter-Vickers made 17 league appearances for Sheffield United during his spell at the club, chipping in with one goal and two assists to return a WhoScored rating of 6.75.
